ENGINEER SENIOR OR STAFF
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a designated supervisor
or Project Manager, applies professional knowledge and experience
and judgment in organizing and carrying out field, laboratory, and
technical work required to complete projects from routine to
complex, depending on experience and supervises field and technical
personnel who perform the work directly. Participates on major
projects, reporting to a more senior engineer or Project Manager.
EDUCATION: Bachelors or Master's degree in Engineering
CERTIFICATION/LICENSING: Engineering License
SPECIFICATION SUMMARY: The candidate must have an educational
background as indicated and satisfactorily completed an initial
training period in the basic procedures of field exploration,
laboratory tests, and technical report preparation. Candidate must
be capable of performing these functions with minor supervision. The
ability to progressively improve skill level and deal effectively
with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers is essential.
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS: At least four years'
progressively responsible experience in specialty field.
CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS TESTING (CMT) LABORATORY MANAGER -
Laboratory Manager Responsibilities:
- Project management, including invoicing and collection of
fees;
- Develops/maintains client relations/markets laboratory
services;
- Supervises laboratory staff;
- Schedules laboratory work;
- Reads and understands project plans and specifications;
- Performs laboratory testing of soil, aggregate, concrete,
asphalt, masonry, and other construction materials;
- Produces computer-based laboratory reports;
- Manages nuclear gauge calibration;
- Maintains AASHTO laboratory accreditation:
- Performs/schedules equipment calibration;
- Updates Quality Manual;
MINIMUM EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSING: Certified (or certifiable) to ACI Level
II or NICET Level III.
CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS TESTING (CMT) FIELD REPRESENTATIVE I,
II, III -
Field Representatives II Responsibilities:
- Extracts field samples in borrow pits.
- Conducts drilling and sampling operations with hand-operated
drilling equipment.
- Obtains water level readings and readings of field
instrumentation.
- Makes field reconnaissance of sites and takes photographs of
field operations as required.
- Prepares written daily field observation reports and summary
reports.
- Assists with field surveying or other field engineering
activities.
- Assists with geophysical exploration.
- Performs field density testing of soil, asphalt and
aggregate.
- Performs field quality control tests on plastic concrete.
- Performs routine laboratory testing of soil, aggregate,
concrete, asphalt and other construction materials.
- Observes foundation installation operations.
- Limited decision-making.
- Observes non-destructive tests on welded and bolted
connections when certification is not required.
- Ability to read and understand project plans and
specifications.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSING: Nuclear safety certified and ACI Level
